2nd Term In Office Is No Longer A Birth Right– Obasanjo

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has tasked president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to prioritise all sectors as he assumes office in the next 9 days.
Speaking at a press conference organised as part of events to mark African Day in Germany, Obasanjo urged Buhari to take all sectors in need of attention very serious, noting that none can be discarded in favour of the other.
When asked which areas he would want Buhari to prioritise, he said; “If I say employment, what of power, security, education?  If he takes up one and ignores the other, do you think he will complete his first tenure in office.”

Urging the president-elect to deliver as he has promised, Obasanjo stated that the outcome of the recently held elections in the country is an indication that securing a second term in office “is no longer a right.”
In a report published by Daily Trust, the ex-president noted that, prior to the recent elections, most leaders in the country and on the continent thought that, securing another term in office was a birth right, “in fact it was considered impossible to lose.”
He said: “The people’s wish prevailed and I am proud to say it here that Nigeria got it right this time around.
“The elections may not have been perfect, but it was a reflection of the people’s wish. Even where there were manipulations, it did not affect the results. Attempts to rig did not yield any positive results. I think with what happened, people will no longer be eager to manipulate elections.”
Obasanjo urged people in leadership positions to be mindful of their actions adding that: “ When we started the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) many people thought and even voiced it, that the party will rule forever, but look at it today. It is only 16 years down the road and the PDP is already an opposition party.”
The ex-president further revealed that, the development was very good for Africa, because “if anything goes well in Nigeria, that is a quarter of the continent going well.”

BOKO HARAM HOSTAGES REVEALS TRUTH ABOUT CAPTIVITY.

Boko Haram Hostages Reveal Truth About Captivity

Meriam, one of the hostages recently rescued from Boko Haram, has spoken about her time in captivity. In particular, she described how the insurgents train abducted girls and women for suicide missions. Other abductees also recalled their shocking ordeal.
Meriam
The 36-year-old victim who is currently at a Maiduguri camp for displaced people spoke with the New York Times.
Meriam described the process of preparation for the suicide bombings in detail.
“The Boko Haram would recite the prayer for the dead. Then they would put on the hijab,” covering the suicide belt.
“They said, ‘God will forgive us,’ Then, they would enter the vehicles, and they would send the women away.”
Chibok girls
The former captive also said she had seen some of the Chibok girls at Gwoza hospital adding that they had apparently been given special status by Boko Haram.
Other victims speak up
The interviewed females said they had been kept in groups and forced into sexual relationships with the militants. Sometimes the aim was to impregnate the abductees.
Hamsatu, aged 25, said “they married me” and revealed she was four months pregnant by a Boko Haram member.
“They chose the ones they wanted to marry. If anybody shouts, they said they would shoot them.”
Yahauwa, 30, who tested positive for HIV after the rescue, asked the relief doctor with her eyes full of tears:
“Is it from the people who forced me to have affairs with them?..
“When they came, they would select the one they wanted to sleep with. They said, ‘If you do not marry us, we will slaughter you.’  ”
A young woman Yana, who could not even recall her age, was kept together with 50 other women in a house in Bama, Borno state.
“If they want to have an affair with a woman, they will just take her to a private place, so that the others won’t see.”
The relief workers said she had been raped so often that the psychological trauma was devastating.
Borno authorities
Kashim Shettima, the Borno state governor said that many of the women had been impregnated intentionally for another generation of the insurgents to emerge.
“The sect leaders make a very conscious effort to impregnate the women. Some of them, I was told, even pray before mating, offering supplications for God to make the products of what they are doing become children that will inherit their ideology,” he said.
Abba Mohammed Bashir Shuwa, an official from Maiduguri, added:
“It’s like they wanted to have their own siblings, to take over from them.”
The claim was confirmed by Hadiza Waziri, a relief representative.
“We are going to have another set of Boko Haram. Most of these women now, they don’t want these pregnancies. You cannot love the child.”
More killings and abductions recorded
Meanwhile Sabongari town in Madagali LGA of Adamawa state was stormed by the Boko Haram militants over the weekend. The fighters killed many people and abducted six women, Vanguard reports.
Musa, one of the locals, said that the insurgents had arrived at about 10 pm Sunday night and started shooting sporadically.
The attack comes amid a series of successful anti-Boko Haram operations carried out by the Nigerian military in the northeast.
However, Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect, yesterday criticized the army over their inability to protect Nigerians calling such a situation shameful

OBAMA PRESSURED TO ATTEND BUHARI'S INAUGURATION.

Obama Pressured To Attend Inauguration Ceremony

With the inauguration of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President-elect, Yemi Osinbajo fast approaching, the White House is under pressure on who to represent the United States at the May 29 event.
Obama Pressured To Attend Inauguration Ceremony
United States President, Barack Obama
A pro-Africa U.S. lobby group in Washington DC and the Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans (CANAN) are requesting President Barack Obama to attend the event himself, while the immediate past U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Johnnie Carson, is asking the president to send his deputy, Vice President Joe Biden, to lead the American delegation to the event
Carson over the weekend in a statement, advised the U.S. President to visit Nigeria in July while heading out to East Africa as already announced.
According to a White House spokesperson, Natalie Wozniak, said the U.S. President is not ready to announce a delegation to the Nigeria’s presidential swearing-in ceremony.
Because such an announcement is expected in the forthcoming week based on traditional practices by the White House.
With regards to the Buhari-Osinbajo inauguration, Ambassador Carson noted that “President Obama should send a high level delegation to President Buhari’s inauguration in Abuja on May 29.”
However CANAN and another leading U.S. group released separate statements asking President Obama to be personally present at the event in Abuja.
The group-Constituency for Africa- is considered one of the leading organizations in the US “committed to educating and mobilizing the US public on matters pertaining to Africa.”
CANAN’s president, Melvin Foote, in the statement argued that “last month, Nigeria completed its election process in a peaceful and transparent manner. While the U.S. applauded this positive feat, our involvement cannot conclude just yet. In fact, in some ways, it is only just beginning — which is why I strongly urge President Barack Obama to attend the inauguration of President-Elect Mohammadu Buhari on May 29.”
“By attending the inauguration personally, Obama will cap the whole affair graciously and end the controversial fallouts of the exclusion of Nigeria in his prior visits to Africa. CANAN wishes the President take a very deep reflection on this matter and add a great spur to the ferment of change that is ongoing in Nigeria by being personally present at the Buhari-Osinbajo inauguration on May 29. It will set a new tone not only in US-Nigeria relations, but in US relationship with Africa as a whole.”
He suggested that by sending a high powered delegation to the presidential inauguration in Nigeria and then dropping by in Nigeria on his way to East Africa in July, President Obama can bring about a new beginning between Nigeria and the U.S. with the emergence of the Buhari-Osinbajo presidency.
There were reports earlier that President Obama is planning to send a high-powered, presidential delegation possibly led by his wife, First Lady, Michelle Obama, the VP,  Joe Biden or the Secretary of State, John Kerry.

The governor disclosed this during his book launch “Dynamics of Change: The Amaechi Years” on Thursday.
Amaechi said feared he would be jailed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if Muhammadu Buhari had lost the March 28 presidential election.

One day Asiwaju got angry with me, he was very angry, i went to his house with El-Rufai, i went to his house and knelt down saying please let’s not disagree, lets win first and then we can disagree”, he stated.
Amechi described his and his co-travellers political triumph over the PDP as a “civilian coup”, which Tinubu had helped to bring about.
