FACTS ABOUT PRESIDENT JONATHAN'S TEENAGE LIFE--woman reveals

WOMAN WHO LIVED WITH PRESIDENT JONATHAN AS A TEENAGER REVEALS PERSONAL DETAILS ABOUT HIM

Before the 2011 elections, one slogan that became prominent in President Goodluck Jonathan campaign theme was,“I had no shoes growing up” . This sentence was used by Jonathan in one of his speeches when he was canvassing for Nigerian votes at the election.

That sentence reverberated round the nation as many Nigerians bought into the project of a Goodluck Jonathan presidency saying it represents a “breath of fresh air”.

Not many people know the details of the president’s teenage years. But, as fate would have it, a woman in whose boys’ quarters Jonathan lived with his uncle, has revealed some personal details about the president.

It is said that President Jonathan once lived in Oguta before the war, where he attended St. Paul’s Anglican Church Primary School and was nicknamed‘’Aguduma” by his peers in primary school which means “Handsome Goodluck.”.

The woman, who spoke to the Daily Sun in Imo state, revealed very personal details about the president’s growing years.

7 Facts About GEJ’s Teenage Years

1. He was nicknamed ‘Aguduma”

2. He was always ill-treated by his uncle, who never bought him school books, sandals or other things he needed for school.

3.He was always the last, among the pupils who lived in the compound, to go to school daily because of house chores he must complete every morning.

4. He refused to accept unsolicited gifts from people.

5. He engaged himself in menial jobs to survive.

6. He was abandoned in the village by his uncle

7. He fell from a tree while trying to pluck mango

Meanwhile, Ghana has pulled down the billboards of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

ADEBOYE ENDORSES OSINBANJO INFRONT OF JONATHAN::

So this actually happened last year but the video is currently trending. The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has not publicly endorsed any politician. But in a video that was filmed last year February, during his visit to the Olive Tree parish of the church that had Prof. Yemi Osinbajo the current APC vice presidential candidate as its pastor, Pa Adeboye is heard showering praises on Osinbajo.

Adeboye was commenting on the fact that he had not visited the church since he posted Osinbajo to head it. That the last time he was in the church, it was when the former pastor was around. He said:

“You know usually with your friends, you take them for granted. You want to rush to where there might be trouble spots. But when you know that there’s no problem here, you tend to forget. But once in a while, you need to know that your friend needs fellowship.

Some of you might be thinking, maybe he didn’t come because he doesn’t like the new man. I didn’t come because I trust him, because he’s a wonderful child of God. Very wonderful child of God. Absolutely reliable. He’s one of the few Christians, one of the few sons I have that if you give him an assignment, you can go to sleep. By the time you wake up, it will be done.”

Coincidentally, Nigeria’s president Goodluck Jonathan was also at that service and APC supporters believe it’s more than just a coincidence. See the v

PDP WARNS CLARK,TOMPOLO AND DOKUBO OVER WAR THREAT

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday asked the former federal Commissioner for Information and Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Mujahid Asari- Dokubo, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo and other Niger Delta militants to be mindful of what they say at this period of the nation’s political history.

The PDP also warned other support groups, organisations, professional bodies and associations rooting for President Goodluck Jonathan to be careful with their utterances to ensure decency in the polity.
This was even as ex- MEND Commanders in the Niger Delta, gave General Theophilus Danjuma seven days ultimatum to apologize over his call for the arrest of Asari Dokubo,Tompolo for threatening that Nigeria would break up if President Jonathan lost the February Presidential election. The ex-militants said that war would follow in Nigeria if Jonathan lost the election. Chief Clark and the ex-militants blasted General Danjuma in their reaction, saying that his remarks were disappo-inting. At a meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital yesterday, the former militant commanders in the region condemned the call for the arrest of front line freedom fighters in the region, Alhaji Mujahideen Asari Dokubo and Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a Tompolo, saying that the call amounted to a declaration of war against the Niger Delta region.
Former MEND Commander, Victor Ebikabowei Ben, alias General Boyloaf, also asked General Danjuma to apologise and hide his head in shame or face humiliation.
However, speaking with newsmen in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh noted that although the party appreciated the support of all Nigerians, it was disturbed over the provocative statements of some people which could provoke other parts of the country, warning that Jonathan was not an Ijaw President or that of the South South geo- political zone of the country alone but the president of all Nigerians.
Metuh said, “we want to stress and state publicly, that whilst we have noted the interest, zeal and enthusiasms of individuals, various groups, support groups and organisations, that are supporting the president with statements, adverts, documentaries and TV programmes; we appeal to them to be guided by the noble ideals and the visions of the founding fathers of our party.
“We are not in agreement with their statements and we are cautioning them to mind what they say. No individuals own the party. The President could be more loved in Anambra than Ijaw area. He has support in Adamawa than in Bayelsa States…
“Well, we have noted that whilst we are not responsible for the utterances, statements of some of our support individuals, groups and organizations; we are cautioning them to be mindful of what they say.
“Ours is a national party. We cover all zones, all local governments. No individual owns our party, no group, no people, no zone owns our party. And being a national party, we caution some of our people, some of our supporters to be mindful of the zeal that they exhibit. Let the wrong impression not be given.
“President Jonathan could even be more loved in Anambra than in the Ijaw area. He could even be more loved in Zamfara than in the Ijaw area. He could even have more support and more votes from Adamawa than in Ijaw. And to buttress this, yesterday in the campaign, Mr President informed all that the Adamawa people gave him twice the number of votes that he got from Bayelsa. So the president is not the president of Ijaw, he is not president of Bayelsa; he is not president of South South, he is the president of the entire Nigeria and he has the support of the entire country.” On PDP’s anticipated victory, Metuh said, “We are rounding up next week. So we have done over 70 percent of our campaign.
Alhaji Asari- Dokubo had threatened that “ ex- militants would return to their old ways should President Jonathan lose the election,” at a meeting last week in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital,
Reacting to the issue, the former Minister of Defence, General Theophilous Danjuma called for the arrest of Dokubo and other former Niger Delta Militants for threatening to rock the boat should President Jonathan lose the February 14 election.
Danjuma who described the statements as reckless, had said, “those are very reckless statements made by irresponsible individuals and they should be condemned. In fact, they should be arrested.’’
But responding to Danjuma, Chief Edwin Clark, Tompolo, Dokubo, others tongue lashed the former Minister, accusing him of sponsoring attacks on Jonathan and that the government should arrest him rather than the ex- militants. Clark who said he was disappointed at the call by Danjuma for the arrest of the Ex- Militants, stressed that he (Danjuma) ought to have condemned the attacks on Jonathan in several states in the North.
Meanwhile, ex militant Commanders in the Niger Delta region have asked General Danjuma to apologise over his call for the arrest of front line freedom fighters in the region or face problems.
‘General’ Reuben Wilson aka Pastor who handed the ultimatum on behalf of other commanders of Defunct Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND in Port Harcourt said Danjuma had by his call for arrest of Niger delta crusaders called for war against the region. Wilson who is now president Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative said Danjuma was among northern leaders that had richly benefited from the oil resource in the region.
“Our attention has been drawn to publications credited to T.Y.Danjuma, a former defence minister, calling for the arrest of former Niger Delta freedom fighters, including our frontline selfless leader and hero, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo.
“As much as he has the right to free speech, Danjuma ought to know that the oil money he is enjoying today, through his ownership of oil blocs, came from our sacrifices and blood. We staked our life to fight for the development of our country. We fought for freedom for our land and it pains us that people like Danjuma who have reaped bountifully from the Niger Delta, can wake up to insult our sensibilities.
“For Danjuma to call for the arrest of Asari Dokubo, then he has walked on the tail of the serpent. The much we know is that we the ex militants who decided to drop our guns to join forces with the federal government to develop the country, especially the Niger Delta have never said anything or taken any action that would warrant such explosives from Danjuma,’’ he said and reaffirmed the support of ex militant commanders for the second term bid of Jonathan. “All we have said overtime is that our brother, President Jonathan, is a true son of the Niger Delta, and deserves to enjoy the two terms in office provided for in the constitution. We stand by this right and we will do everything legal and legitimate to make sure that he is not denied that right, not by a thousand Danjumas.

POLICE ARREST FIVE APC COUNCILLORS OVER PLAN TO DEFECT TO PDP

POLICE ALLEGEDLY ARREST APC COUNCILLORS::Men of the Ogun State Police command, Thursday, allegedly arrested five councillors from Ijebu North East and Odogbolu LGAs, out of the 100 local government councillors in the state, after it was rumoured that they planned to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The arrested councillors were reported by Vanguard to have said to be on their way to the PDP secretariat, the venue of the defection in Atan, the headquarters of Ijebu North East Local Government Area, when the bus they were travelling in was accosted by about eight armed policemen around Ogbogbo.
Vanguard quoted a source as telling a Vanguard correspondent that no fewer than 100 APC local government councillors across the state had concluded plans to defect to the opposition PDP in their various areas.
The councillors were also said to have already met the PDP leadership in the state and had concluded arrangements on when they would formally defect in each of the 20 local government areas of the state.
The unidentified policemen arrested councillors including Hon. Dele Talabi (Ward 6), Rufus Onadega (Ward 2), Hon. Rosanwo (Ward 9), and Hon. Ajayi (Ward 5). Vanguard reported that the name of the fifth councillor believed to be from Odogbolu Local Government could not be ascertained immediately.
The state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Sola Lawal has however dismissed the allegation. “That cannot be true. We are not aware of that; that is not to our knowledge,” he said.
Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi also said that he was not aware of the arrest of the five APC councillors.

KILL PDP BEFORE IT KILLS ALL OF US-buhari charges Nigerians

BENIN-CITY — PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (ret), in Benin City, yesterday, charged Nigerians to constitutionally kill the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through their votes before it kills Nigerians.

His declaration came as Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Adams Oshiomhole of Rivers and Edo states faulted President Goodluck Jonathan for failing the people of the region.
They spoke at the Benin City presidential rally of the APC which held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Some of the dignitaries at the well attended rally were the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi; Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr. Pius Odubu; former Minister of State for Works, Engr. Chris Ogienwonyi, and all APC candidates in the state.
Governor Amaechi said the admission of the President in Port-Harcourt, Wednesday that he had not done anything for the region was an admission of failure that should not be rewarded with another four years.
Governor Oshiomhole on his part, blamed the President for failing to tackle corruption, saying the President kept a blind eye to the death of several graduates who were scammed during the Immigration recruitment interviews last year.
General Buhari, who lamented that every household in Nigeria suffered alleged PDP misrule in the past 16 years, said Nigerians must ensure that they vote out the PDP on February 14, and defend their votes, asserting that an APC government will find lasting solution to corruption, unemployment, insurgency and poverty, which according to him, were inflicted on Nigerians by the PDP.
Amaechi in responding to the claims by the President in PortHarcourt that he had not done anything for the region said: “The President admitted that he has done nothing in South-South in six years. When he could not do anything in six years how will he do anything in four years. I have told Rivers people, Eleme Petro chemical in Rivers State, NAFCON, were done by Hausa-Fulani men. Our president who is our son has spent six years but he did not do anything.
“All he has done is to enrich himself and other people and our responsibility is to get a good president who will do something for us and for Nigeria. And we thank God that the President himself has admitted to failure. I call him “I will do President.” We will vote out this “I will do President.” Once trust is betrayed you can never repair it.”

ANGRY YOUTH STONES JONATHAN'S CONVOY

JALINGO — Youths angry at the Nigerian government’s failure to fight Islamic extremists threw stones Thursday at President Goodluck Jonathan’s electioneering convoy in the eastern town of Jalingo, Taraba State, breaking windshields and windows on several vehicles. An Associated Press reporter was unable to see if anyone was hurt.
Police used tear gas and whips to disperse the mob.
In another incident, angry youths also stormed the state secretariat of the President’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and vandalised the building and parked vehicles.
The attack on the secretariat was said to have done by over 300 youths who come in vehicles with arms.
A security man at the gate of the secretariat, who spoke to Vanguard said he ran for his life when he saw the youths of more than a 100 and armed approach the secretariat.
Not fewer than ten vehicles were damaged while the building was damaged in several places.
From Jalingo, Jonathan flew to Yola, capital of Adamawa State, where officials had declared the route of his motorcade a no-go area.
The presidential cavalcade already had been stoned in northern Katsina city and northeast Bauchi last week. Youths in Bauchi flung shoes and plastic bottles at Jonathan’s podium at a rally.
In Jalingo, soldiers guarded billboards and posters of Jonathan, who is running for re-election on Feb. 14.
Protesters shouted that the troops should instead be fighting the Boko Haram insurgents blamed for the deaths of some 10,000 people in the past year.

LAND USE CHARGE: PUBLISH YOUR RECEIPT FASHOLA TELLS AGBAJE

The Lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday challenged the People’s Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, the owner of Jaykay Pharmacy, to publish receipts showing that he had paid N1.6 million land use charge debt.
The governor, who made the statement while addressing the crowd at the APC campaign rally held in Epe Local Government, said that revealing the facts on land use charge debt of JayKay pharmacy was not for personal reasons but for the development of the state.
According to him, “It is not that I hate him (Agbaje). But this is not a personal issue. This is an issue that concerns the development of Lagos State. I am saying this without mincing words. His pharmacy has not paid land Use Charge for year 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012; it amounts to N1, 629, 064.62. But they have paid for 2013 and 2014.”
This came 24 hours after Agbaje accused the governor of distort ing the fact, saying “I have even been commended for paying my Land Use Charge on time.
“I didn’t say you did not pay two years Land Use Charge, LUC you did. But you have four years unpaid LUC. If you have paid all your LUC, please publish your receipt.”
Agbaje condemns Fashola, APC’s attacks on him
Meantime, Agbaje yesterday decried the constant attacks on his personality by the All Progressives Congress-led government.
Agbaje, who said this while addressing a rally organised for Amuwo Odofin and Apapa local government areas said that rather than resort to mudslinging, the APC should focus on issue based politics.
Addressing the supporters, Agbaje decried the campaign of calumny against him orchestrated by the APC and the Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola.
He described the governor’s allegation of tax evasion as false and a campaign of clamuny based on fear of loosing to the PDP.
He said: “The more mud they throw at me, the cleaner I come out as you all know. The governor in one of the APC rallies had said that I am too old to govern the state whereas we are all in our 50s and I look younger than them. At another forum, he said I do not have experience to be a governor and I begin to wonder there where he got his own experience as governor before governing Lagos. I want you to know that governance is not about experience but qualification.

Bafana Bafana will not be returning home from their African Cup of Nations (Afcon), campaign on Thursday morning as expected.

They were due to arrive at OR Tambo International Airport from Equatorial Guinea at 6 o'clock, but their travel arrangements have now changed.

It's not clear when they will arrive.

The national team is expected to hold a media briefing at the airport, following Bafana's exit from the African Cup of Nations after the first round.

Meanwhile, former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Deshi Bhaktawer says although the senior national team is always under the spotlight, the real focus for South Africa should be on development.

“Often as South Africans particularly in the football fraternity, we [are] not honest with ourselves. We should look at ourselves … how we do things administratively and how we structure the junior leagues and all that sort of things. So, I don't think you can blame Shakes [Bafana coach] for not going through and that sort of a thing,” adds Bhaktawer.

5000 PDP MEMBERS DEFECTS TO APC IN ONDO

PDP chair in Ondo decampes with 5000 party members to APC::

Since Governor Olusegun Mimiko joined the PDP and took over the structure of the party in Ondo State, the party has been suffering some major loses and the negative tide has even gone a step higher.
Barely 24 hours to the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Ondo State, a former chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Sanya Orungbemi, and 5,000 others from the Akoko North East local government area of the state yesterday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The leader of the defectors and former senatorial aspirant, Mr Jide Ipinsagba, said at a press conference in Ikare-Akoko, that they decided to dump PDP because of the injustice in the party.
He said: “We leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party in Akoko North East Local Government Area and over 5000 teeming supporters are moving from a deadly party to a progressive party.”

He lamented the rate at which people were moving out of PDP since Governor Mimiko joined the party in October last year.
Mr. Ipinsagba stated that old members of the PDP in the state are no longer allowed to have any say in the affairs of the party except what the governor imposes on them.

“We are leaving PDP to for APC to restore the glory and ensure the development of our area and our people. Not only the people of Akoko are tired of the current trends in Ondo state and Nigeria at large but every right thinking person.”

The defectors were received into the APC by its state chairman, Hon. Isaac Kekemeke and other leaders.e

EKSU STUDENT'S HEAD CUT OPEN DURING APC AND PDP CLASH IN EKITI..

A student of the Ekiti state University suffered severe cut on his head during a clash between the APC and the PDP in the state on Saturday January 24th. While the APC allege that the clash broke out after the National Vice-President, External, National Association of Nigerian Students, Tosin Ogunkuade was arrested by the state police for speaking during its presidential campaign, the state Governor in his defence said the people arrested were thugs of the APC who wanted to cause trouble in the state. The youngman with the cut is currently receiving medical attention.

ANYONE NOT SATISFIED WITH MY RESULT CAN GO TO COURT--buhari

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), yesterday, insisted that his academic certificates were submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and were duly acknowledged by the Legal Department of the commission. He therefore wondered why it remained a talking point among Nigerians.

Buhari said this in Abuja, when the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) formally adopted him as its presidential candidate for the February presidential election.

“Well I am not surprised. This is Nigeria. If people are serious about this issue, they ought to have listened to the Legal Adviser of INEC,” Vanguard quoted the APC presidential candidate as saying.

“This is the first time, INEC by law has got those documents and they said they have got them. So, anybody who has any different view should go to court. I think they have gone to court. So, let them remain there,” Buhari said.

Following the release of the former head of state’s academic record by the Government Secondary School, Katsina, an Abuja lawyer, Chike Okafor, on Monday, filed a suit before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, seeking to disqualify Buhari from contesting the presidential election, saying the APC presidential candidate gave false information in the affidavit he submitted to INEC, in support of his nomination form.

I NEVER DOCTORED ANY CAMBRIDGE CERTIFICATE FOR BUHARI--FANI KAYODE

ABUJA- DIRECTOR, Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PCO, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode said Tuesday, that he never doctored any document from Cambridge University on the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, retd.
He described as false as he never commented on the document that would warrant allegation that he manipulated a document from Cambridge University to justify his claim that Buhari’s West African School Certificate’s statement of result was forged.
In a statement signed Monday, by  Special Assistant to Fani-Kayode, Sufuyan Ojeifo, he stressed that the allegation of manipulation against Chief Fani-Kayode, was indicative of desperation by the opposition.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress, APC, rather than accuse Fani- Kayode of his involvement in the said document, it use its energy and time to speak on the issue of whether General Buhari has a certificate or not.
The statement read, “The attention of the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has been drawn to some media reports alleging that he manipulated a document from Cambridge University to justify his claim that that General Muhammadu Buhari’s West African School Certificate’s statement of result was forged.
“Chief Fani-Kayode wishes to state clearly that he never issued a statement signed by him in his capacity as spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign neither did he address a press conference nor briefing where he referred to the Cambridge document in question. He also did not validate the content of the said document on any occasion.
“As far as he is concerned, he, as a person, does not know of the existence of the said Cambridge e-mail document and what the content is all about. He never commented on the content of the document and therefore how that translated into forgery beats the imagination. To be clear, he has not been in touch with Cambridge to request for any information in respect of the issue in question.
“What he has done, especially during his last press conference on General Buhari’s published statement of result was to make assertions to the effect that the statement of result was forged and illegally procured; and had called on the police to track down the masterminds of the forgery.

KAYODE FAYEMI REPLIES SOLUDO OVER JONATHAN vs BUHARI

Former Ekiti governor, kayode fayemi, has replied charles soludo over his comment about buhari and jonathan..

The former governor of Ekiti state and the head of Policy, Research and Strategy Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign, Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday responded to Prof Chukwuma Soludo's article  'Buhari vs Jonathan: Beyond the Election'.

Read his thoughts below...

We commend Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his insightful and incisive article published under the above title.

We agree with Professor Soludo that if the political parties, including ours, must justify the overwhelming enthusiasm of Nigerians about the 2015 elections we must remain focused on the issues that matter most to them, which is the progress of our country and the well being of our people. Indeed, this has been the driving sentiment of our party and our campaign all along.

While we accept his critical comments on our party, more for the intentions than for the letters, we believe some clarifications would be quite necessary. We wish to emphasise that our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), presents a real option to Nigerians. Professor Soludo expressed the sentiments of most Nigerians when he spoke about the incalculable damage that the PDP under President Jonathan has done to the Nigerian economy and the unprecedented hardship that his six years of the locust has brought upon Nigerians.

However, the APC does not intend to ride into power on a mere rhetoric of ‘change’. The change that we propose is fundamental in many ways as it is critical to the very survival of our country. This in itself presents a major distinction between our party and the PDP. Perhaps, the most compelling argument against the People’s Democratic Party today is that its government and leadership does not even see that Nigeria is in trouble. While majority of our people wallow in abject poverty, and the gap in inequality gets ever wider by the day, PDP has wallowed in self-celebration of imagined accomplishments.

How can a party or a government even begin to solve a problem that it does not believe exist. Like in all things, PDP is stuck in denial.

APC does not promise Eldorado. Neither our candidate nor our manifesto has made such promise. Our programs are based on the critical awareness of the difficult task ahead, while holding out a ray of hope to our people. The promises that we make reflect our conviction that the people must be at the centre of development.

And that any economic growth that leaves the majority of the people behind and does not protect the weakest and the vulnerable among us is merely delusionary.

Professor Soludo has drawn our attention to the striking but unfortunate similarity in the nation’s economy in 1982-1984 period and what we are experiencing today. Back then, a period of sustained high crude oil prices had also ironically led to unsustainable debt levels and introduction of the austerity measure. Just as it happened more than three decades ago, it is difficult to explain how a sustained period of oil boom should ultimately lead to austerity measure except to say that huge opportunities that the period of boom presented were frittered away by mindless profligacy, wanton corruption and bad economic choices made by the PDP government, which has rewarded a protracted period of boom with uncertainty and austerity and is still asking for another mandate to do more damage.

If we sound upbeat in our manifesto, it is because we recognise that this crisis period also presents us a great opportunity to restructure the economy in a way that improves the quality of lives of our people by ensuring that our economic growth is job led. Our party has identified job creation as a critical priority of government. We have noted with concerns that Nigeria’s unemployment rate of 23.9% should be seen as a national crisis. And if this government was more sensitive to the enormity of the challenge that this presents, it would be reluctant to jump all over the place in self celebration while so many of our youths are wasting away.

In the immediate future, our priority is to tackle unemployment and provide good jobs by embarking on a massive programme of public works, building houses, roads, railways, ports and energy plants.

Over the long term, we believe we must wean Nigeria off its dangerous addiction to oil which currently provides 80% of our spending leaving us at the mercy of volatile international oil prices.

Even as a Federalist party, we believe that an economy that is dependent on a commodity that is so dangerously exposed to price volatility must always prepare for eventuality through savings and investments once the agreed thresholds are met. What we disagree with is the unilateral and arbitrary deductions in accruable revenues in a way that hampers the development of the Federating States.

Going by the government’s own statistics, is it mere coincidence that the three States with the lowest unemployment rate – Osun, Lagos and Kwara – are all APC States? This is evidence of our Party’s ability to tackle this problem head-on. APC’s policy thrust will create an enabling environment and incentives for the formal and informal sectors to lead the quest for job creation.

This will be done in addition to skills acquisition and enterprise- training to ensure our youths are equipped with the appropriate skills to take these jobs. Merely introducing a National Qualification Standards would power a whole new world of opportunities for our artisans by launching them into the international job markets. We note the issue that Professor Soludo picked with our figure of 720,000 jobs. We need to clarify that this is limited to immediate direct employment opportunities from public projects and maintenance works only.

Our manifesto actually promises a lot more jobs but we see that as the product of the enabling environment we seek to create for private sector job creation, especially in high opportunity sectors like agriculture, construction, entertainment, tourism, ICT and Sports.

APC economic policy is driven by an overwhelming concern for the level of inequality in our country today. Specifically, to quote from our manifesto, we intend to achieve our job-creation agenda through:

· Massive public works programme especially the building of a national railway system, interstate roads, and ports. These projects must commence early in the life of the new administration.

· Establishing a new Federal Coordinating Agency – Build Nigeria – to fast track and manage these public works programmes with emphasis on Nigerian labour.

· Embarking vigorously on industrialization, public works and agricultural expansion.

· Diversifying the economy through a national industrial policy and innovative private-sector incentives that will move us away from over reliance on oil – into value-added production especially manufacturing.

· Reviving textile and other industries that have been rendered dormant because of inappropriate economic policies.

· Reinvigorating the solid mineral sector by revamping our aged mining legislation and attracting new investment.

· Developing a new generation of domestic oil refineries to lower import costs, enhance our energy independence and create jobs.

· Working with state governments to turn the country into Africa’s food basket through a new system of grants and interest free loans, and the mechanization of agriculture.

· Encouraging and promoting the use of sports as a source of job creation.

· Creating a knowledge economy by making Nigeria an IT /professional/Telecom services outsourcing destination hub to create millions of jobs.

· Filling the huge gap in middle level technical manpower with massive investment in technical and tradesmen’s skills education.

· Ensuring that all foreign contractors to include a plan of developing local capacity (Technology transfer).

· Creation of six Regional Development Agencies covering the country with representatives from the Federal government, States and the private sector to manage a new N300billion growth fund.

Our obsession with job creation stems from the fact that we believe we must focus on actions that would serve the twin purpose of closing the gap in inequality and creating opportunities for our people, especially the youths. Our current situation is dangerous for the stability of the country. The Human Development Index position ranks Nigeria 152 of 169 countries surveyed.

This is incompatible with the present administration’s insistence on celebrating GDP growth and our absolute economic size hinged on a routine rebasing exercise. As many commentators have pointed out, rebasing the GDP is not an achievement. Rather, it is a mere statistical adjustment that does not impact on the real or imagined standards of living of the people. So, we also wonder what this PDP government is celebrating.

And maybe it is not that difficult to explain when one discovers that a small elite has captured the state and converted our commonwealth into private gain, becoming disproportionately rich from massive corruption while poverty has deepened. The income gap and illicit capital flight are growing alarmingly. Instead of investing in modernizing our economy, massive theft has starved the country of desperately needed resources for infrastructure and public services and left us dangerously dependent on fluctuating global oil prices for our economic survival.

For the ordinary Nigerian, the much-touted economic growth cited by the present administration has not translated into employment or development. Over 100 million Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet on a regular basis.

We understand Professor Soludo’s concern on the cost of implementing our various programmes, especially those relating to social welfare. The enormity of this challenge is not lost on us. We also know that sometimes, going into government is like buying a “no testing” electronic equipment. You may never know the true state of what you are buying until you get in. We want to assure Professor Soludo and other likeminded Nigerians that our policy team is looking at all the options – including the worst-case scenario of a completely empty treasury. We are however confident that by blocking avenues of wastage and corruption alone, savings could run into trillions of Naira that could be deployed for productive use.

Even so, we agree with Professor Soludo that savings from corruption alone will not tackle the enormous challenges we are likely to confront in government. We are however comforted by the fact that a four-year period provides opportunity for phased implementation while growing the resource base as well as changing the culture of graft while reducing the cost of governance.

Quite significantly, we know that periods of economic downturn also potentially provide opportunity to lay the foundation for real economic restructuring and development; and we can reflect on how Singapore under Premier Lee Kuan Yew and the United States of America under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt used historic moments of economic downturn in their countries to launch a period of sustained development and a new deal for their people.

General Buhari has never claimed to have the magic wand nor the answers to all of the country’s problems.

His greatest assets would be his moral authority borne out of his self-sacrificing integrity, his sincerity of purpose and his patriotic zeal to return Nigeria to the path of progress and genuine development. He is committed to utilize competent and committed people of integrity wherever he may find them.

This is precisely why he promised when flagging off his campaign in Port Harcourt on January 5, 2015 that if voted into power, it would be an opportunity to, in his words, “finally assemble a competent team of Nigerians to efficiently manage this country”.

This is a clear sign that a meritocratic process will govern the appointment of those that would be entrusted with managing our economy and country. His stint as Head of State shows a track record of using self-sacrificing professionals in his governance team. His previous cabinet included the likes of Dr. Onaolapo Soleye, Professor Tam David-West and Professor Ibrahim Gambari.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is determined to lead Nigeria in the direction of change that is so urgently required. And even as we prepare for the immediate rescue mission in 2015, our minds are also set on building the necessary democratic institutions that would entrench our ideological conviction as a progressive and people-centred party.

A National Progressives Policy Institute is part of this plan in the near future but we are very clear about the enormity of the task ahead. We would not seek to underplay it. We are supremely confident that we are equal to the task and we appreciate the commitment of majority of Nigerians to this quest for change.

Dr. Kayode Fayemi heads the Policy, Research and Strategy Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign.

WE MUST JUDGE BUHARI WITH HIS PAST-Obanikoro

The immediate past Minister of State for Defence, Sen Musliu Obaniko has said that Nigerians should judge Gen Muhammadu Buhari, the APC Presidential Candidate by his past and not what his party presents him to be in 2015.

Obanikoro
Addressing a rally he organised under the aegis of the Goodluck Sambo Independent Campaign Group in Lagos, Obanikoro said Buhari is not electable.
“We cannot continue to judge Buhari based on what we think he will do in future. He should be judged by what he did as a former head of state” he said.
According to Obanikoro, the assaults committed by Buhari and his regime cannot be swept under the carpet.
“His assault on Pa Awolowo, Late Bola Ige, Former Gov Lateef Jakande among others cannot be forgotten.
“The worst crime was his stopping of the Lagos Metro line which would have put Lagos state on a pedestal of sorts” he said.
On the Buhari certificate saga, The ex Minister said that the saga cannot be patched up saying that the APC wanted to patch up the issue but must not be allowed.
On why Nigerians should vote for Jonathan, Obanikoro said that the President is serving Nigeria without discrimination and has helped Nigeria’s democracy to grow by guaranteeing freedom of speech for all.
“Jonathan has made Nigeria his constituency and has never discriminated against any tribe” he said.
The Senator noted that Nigeria was moving towards food sufficiency with thee agricultural policies of the Jonathan’s administration.
He however urged Nigerians to vote for the Jonathan/Sambo ticket and for Mr Jimi Agbaje in Lagos state.
“PDP remains the party to beat in this election and we are sure of victory” he added.

I EAT RICE GROWN IN NIGERIA-jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated the giant strides of his administration in the agricultural sector by declaring that he eats rice grown in Nigeria.
“With pride, I am able to again affirm, I eat rice grown in Nigeria. It is a matter of honour that more and more of the rice eaten in Nigeria now originate from Nigeria,” he posted on his Facebook page.
The president boasted that major restaurants and hotel chains  in the country now report to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture that they cannot meet the demand for locally grown rice. He vowed that if the Agricultural Transformation Agenda is maintained that Nigeria will soon become self-sufficient in rice production.
“Nigeria will become self-sufficient in rice production in no distant time, should we maintain the on-going momentum of our Agricultural Transformation Agenda. I am proud of what the Nigerian farmer has achieved and the sky is the limit if we stay the course. My dear friends, by God’s grace, we will stay the course,” he assured.
The president is updating his followers on Facebook on his achievements since he took over as the president of Nigeria. On Monday, he stated that his goal as president of the country is to put an end to poverty and hunger.

SYLVA WINNING JONATHAN LOYALIST FOR BUHARI::Few weeks to the presidential election, a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has continued to lobby his former top aides and leading members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to support the election the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mohammud Buhari. Sylva who was pushed out of power by President Goodluck Jonathan, has already won over into the APC, Senator Felix Oboro, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Venezuela. He also led a team of senior party leaders to a former Special Security Adviser, Chief Richard Kpodo. It was gathered that over 500 party loyalists that included the state chairman of APC, Chief Tiwei Orunimingha, were at the meeting with Chief Kpodo at his hotel in Yenagoa. Sources close to the meeting said Sylva urged Chief Kpodo to return to the APC fold and unite to ensure the election of Gen. Buhari, thereby ensuring that the change needed for development in the country is realized. Chief Kpodo, on his part, described the visit by Sylva and the APC loyalists as a positive one. “He wants me to give my support to his party. And I am yet to give a reply. And I have equally told my supporters all over the state and region to be on standby.”

I WILL DEFEND NIGERIA UNITY IF RE-ELECTED-jonathan:::::President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the task of keeping Nigeria one, despite the security challenges, remained one of his priorities if re-elected on February 14. Jonathan spoke at the Rwang Pam Township stadium in Jos during a campaign rally, Monday. He appealed to the people to vote the PDP in all the elections as Plateau State was the home of PDP and its people, asking the residents to ensure that the party did not lose at the polls. “I thank Plateau people for their commitment to ensure that PDP remains in power. Plateau is the home of PDP and PDP is the only party that is democratic and ensures that no one is intimidated. “I signed the FOI bill to ensure freedom of speech, I will work hard to ensure freedom and peace in the country as keeping Nigeria one is a task all of us must undertake,” he said. Earlier, the state Governor, Jonah Jang had reiterated the need to continue in the infrastructural development of the state and urged all to support the party’s candidates in the general elections. Similarly, the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Gyang Pwajok thanked the people for the opportunity to serve adding, “the younger generation is ready to take the state higher in the next dispensation.

NIGERIANS REACT TO BISHOP OYEDEPO GATE OF HELL SAGA:::There is controversy over the actual words of the General Overseer of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Ota, Ogun State, David Oyedepo, during the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the church on Sunday. There are allegations that the prominent cleric threatened to open the gate of hell on those opposing the president, but there are indications that Bishop Oyedepo never said those opposing the president but those against Nigeria. Members of the church said the Bishop urged the church to pray for peace in Nigeria and a violence-free 2015 polls without any word of campaign for Jonathan. However, the opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC and its supporters have taken to the social media to criticise the Bishop. The APC took to its twitter page to say that “Go and Open the gates of Hell… We will enter there and use our PVCs to CHANGE the Padlock and Lock you inside – APC Supporter”. The party also re-tweet some of the comments of its followers, especially from some of its influencers which castigated the man of God. Some commentators are also criticising APC for spreading lies against the Bishop while other felt the party do not have the moral justification to condemn Bishop Oyedepo if he actually made the statement since the party celebrated the sermon of Catholic priest, Rev. Mathew Mbaka against the president. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the aides of the president are silent on the issue.

An Overland Airways ATR 72 turboprop engine aircraft with 59 passengers on board landed at the Ilorin International airport and veered off the runway hitting the pavement with no injuries to passengers. The aircraft was performing a flight a flight from Abuja to Ilorin when the incident happened around 5:45PM Nigerian time. POSTPONING THE ELECTIONS WILL BRING BACK MILLITARY RULE:::Retired senior military officers have warned against the postponement of the February general elections to avoid military takeover of the democratic administration of the country. They warned that the “planned” postponement might lead to anarchy in the country, which, according to them, may lead to military intervention. A former Director of Procurement in the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier-General Ayodele Ojo (retd.), in an interview with PUNCH, described the recent call made by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, for the general elections to be postponed as a step towards military rule. He warned that the suggestion by the NSA for deferment of the polls is capable of creating a constitutional crisis that can abort the nation’s democracy. On Thursday, Dasuki stated that the postponement of next month’s elections would give INEC more time to distribute over 30 million outstanding Permanent Voter Cards to registered voters. The NSA said rescheduling the elections would cost INEC and the Federal Government nothing, adding that, “It’s still within the law.” However, Ojo said INEC and the Federal Government should not entertain such a suggestion. He said, “It is a backward step to the dark days of military rule when anti-democratic forces, on the eve of the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, were able to secure a dubious injunction from an Abuja High Court restricting the National Electoral Commission from conducting the election. “This singular act was instrumental to the annulment of the election. It is worrisome that the call, this time around, is coming from a highly placed security official of the Nigerian government. Moreover, the reason given for the postponement is untenable, to say the least.” The former director at the DHQ added that if the call for a postponement was based on allowing would-be voters to collect their PVCs, the Federal Government could consider declaring a public holiday. Ojo added, “What I think is required is for the Federal Government to declare Friday, February 6, 2015 as a work-free day to enable affected voters the last opportunity to collect their PVCs. “INEC could also use that weekend before the presidential election as a dress rehearsal. This will require INEC to deploy its entire staff on that Friday and Saturday for the voters to collect their PVCs from the polling units, where they are expected to vote the following Saturday of the presidential election. “This, I believe, will take care of this problem without resort to postponing the election, thereby creating unnecessary and avoidable crises. This suggestion by the NSA is uncalled for and must be resisted by all Nigerians in order to avoid plunging the country into self-inflicted crisis.”

EXTERNAL INFLUENCE RESPONSIBLE FOR NON RELEASE OF CHIBOK GIRLS-JONATHAN:::President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the influence of external forces has so far fraustated the governments effort in securing the release of the abducted Chibok girls by the Boko Haram sect, promising that his administration would do everything possible to end insurgency in a matter of months. The president spoke, yesterday, at the palace of the Shehu of Borno where he had gone to pay homage to the traditional ruler. According to him, after ending the Boko Haram insurgency, his administration would rebuild the affected areas. Jonathan stated that, with the use of initiatives like Victim Support Fund, Presidential Initiative for North-east and Safe School Initiative as well as increased budgetary allocation, his administration will rebuild and redesign Borno State in such a way that children will have access to education and better future. "We feel the pain of Borno people. I personally feel more pained when people accuse me of of being involved in the problem for some political advantage. I have said it many times that my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. And I don't think any president or human being can do what they accuse me of doing," the president said. "The Boko Haram problem is what I thought we would have ended long ago but may be external influence or interest is affecting us. I am assuring you however that it won't take us more than a few months to end this insurgency and restore peace in Borno. "Our people must return to their communities. Insha Allahu, we will get our Chibok girls back"

ACTRESS TOYIN AIMAKU'S MARRAIGE CRASHES::I am sorry to break this news to you this beautiful Saturday Morning but it is what it is and I exclusively deliver the sad news that actress Toyin Aimahku and her actor hubby Adeniyi Johnson have parted ways! Insiders allege that the couple have been living apart for over three months but have been trying to hide it from the press.. Inside sources say that that Toyin and Adeniyi broke up due to infidelity, which had eaten deep into their marriage. Source alleges that Toyin used evidence from snooping on her hubby’s phone and caught darling husband red handed in hotel rooms several times with different girls…Infact my source quotes the number of times as almost ”300 times red handed”. The couple have both moved out of their apartment in Lekki and have both moved on but pretending to be still together….. Only their close friends are aware of their split and the insiders allege that a reconciliation might not be possible because of the ease with which both walked out and have indicated that that they do not wish to be together. Adeniyi currently has his facebook status as seperated….that is if he hasnt changed it. Another source whispers that concerning both ”when there is no respect in a marriage, when couples talk to each other without respect and words are no longer relied upon and love has left behind a sour taste, then its time to check why you married in the first place”. Toyin and Adeniyi had a low key traditional wedding in Ibadan in February 2013 and on July 8 2013 they signed the dotted lines at the Ikoyi registry. Their wedding was a celebrated affair on the internet and in the print media. Toyin and Niyi had no child together before they parted ways. There is no wound that baba God cannot heal,no crack that he cannot seal. …even though i pray that God restores what the hungry locust has stolen from them and bring them back together,my prayers will come to nothing if they do not want to be together anymore. I wish them all the best.

BARRACK OBAMA TO MEET NEW SAUDI KING:::U.S. President Barack Obama will travel to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday in order to meet and pay his respects to the newly appointed monarch, King Salman, and the family of the late King Abdullah, the White House said Saturday. Vice President Joe Biden was originally to have led a delegation to Saudi Arabia on Obama's behalf. However, the schedule for the President's departure from India has been adjusted to allow Obama to stop in Riyadh himself on his way home, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. Funeral services were held Friday for King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Saud, who died earlier in the day. He was 90. World leaders are now traveling to Saudi Arabia to offer condolences for Abdullah's death and pay their respects to the new ruler. Abdullah was seen by many as a cautious reformer who succeeded in securing broader freedoms in the conservative kingdom, but fell short in gaining greater independence for women. His successor, who is 79, faces a number of challenges as he takes up the reins, including Iran, the rise of ISIS, the crisis in Yemen and the drop in oil prices. Obama is due to arrive in New Delhi on Sunday, on a trip intended to foster progress in U.S.-India ties. On Monday, he will become the first American president to headline India's Republic Day parade, standing beside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earnest said Obama's schedule had been changed in coordination with the Indian government and that he would now be leaving India after giving a speech on Tuesday. "The President regrets that he will be unable to visit Agra during this trip," Earnest said. Agra is where the spectacular Taj Mahal mausoleum is located. Biden will now remain in Washington.

I FULFILLED MY 2011 CAMPAIGN::President Goodluck Jonathan Friday said he had fulfilled the promises he made to Nigerians during his 2011 campaign. He said this while inaugurating a five-seater air-conditioned passenger inter-city rail transport system that will link Makurdi, Benue State with Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. Jonathan, who was represented by Vice-President Namadi Sambo, said the country had witnessed transformation, especially in the transport sector during his administration. He said, "President Jonathan has ensured the fulfilment of the promises he made to Nigerians by transforming the country, especially the transport sector as a critical infrastructure. "Today's event is a commitment of our unflinching services. This transformation is in three phases: System transition, system modernisation and system stabilisation". Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State applauded the President for reviving the "moribund" railway system which he said had been abandoned for the past thirty years. He said, "Transformation does not need noise. We need young people to run government, but not old people who are too weak; the old people should guide us to continue the Transformation Agenda." The Chairman, Nigerian Railway Cooperation and former National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Bamanga Tukur, said the commitment of the Federal Government in the railway sector had boosted the economy. The Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, also charged the people to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the present administration in the railway sector. However, some Makurdi residents have described the inauguration as "window dressing." One of them, simply identified as Terkuma, asked, "How can a dead railway system that has been moribund in the last thirty years come to life in just three days?" He described the event as a campaign strategy to woo the Benue electorate.
