The chief imam of Ibadanland and the president of the General League of Imams and Alfas, Sheik Busari Suara has died.
Sheik Surara, according to the Daily Times, died at the age of 93 in the early hours of Thursday. A family source disclosed that according to Islamic rites and tradition the Ibadan-born preacher will be buried at 3pm on Thursday.
The preacher, according to the president of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, died early Friday morning after a brief illness.
According to Premium Times, one of Sheikh Haruna’s well-known last public outings was on March 25, three days prior to the recent presidential election, when Muslims from all walks of life gathered at the Eid praying ground in Ibadan to offer special prayers for the nation.
That prayer was called by the Muslim Ummah of South-West‎ Nigeria, and Shiek Suara presided over the session.
Haruna told the gathering that the prayer was necessary in view of the ongoing general elections.
Earlier on Thursday, Nigerians woke up to the news of the demise of Oronto Douglas, a top presidential aide and confidant of Goodluck Jonathan.
