Reports just reaching us indicate that a building has collapsed at, 29 Olotan Street in Ebute Metta area of Lagos state.
A source informed that emergency workers are already on their way to the scene of the incident.
The spokesman for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the incident, but noted that there was no life lost in the collapse.
Meanwhile, Team Lorenzo Reporters findings revealed that the three-storey building which collapsed on Wednesday morning, July 15, was built in 1959.
The owner of the building, a 62-year-old man, who gave his name as Mr. Abayomi Adelagun, told our correspondent that, government officials had since 2013, marked the building for demolition after the one beside it caved in.
Adelagun further explained that after the building had been marked for demolition, the occupants had to relocate and evacuate the property. He said ever since the building has been a hideout for criminals and hoodlums who he suspects may have been inside before it collapsed.
The landlord revealed that the building had been erected since he was about 12- year-old or thereabouts, adding that he inherited it from his late father.
Residents of the neighbourhood confirmed that, the building had been abandoned for years since a building beside it collapsed in 2013 during the Ramadan fasting period. According to some of them, they were not surprised by the sudden collapse this morning.
This sad incident is happening just few days after a building reportedly collapsed in Sabo area of Yaba.
